Arkansas state workforce development agencies are under the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services, with satellite offices throughout the state, in cooperation with regional planning districts.  Many of the offices below are designated as “comprehensive” and are marked by an asterisk (*).  Comprehensive means a “one-stop” office, to include unemployment insurance processing, employment search assistance, and self-help resources.

Some of the Centers listed below are in small communities and have limited information and resources.  Calling the nearest “on-stop” Center before you visit may be more helpful to you and your job search.  But, once you have determined that a particular office will be useful to you, a visit is a must.

There is a special training program for those who receive state and federal assistance, known as Arkansas Works.  See below for more information.

It is advisable to call ahead before your visit to insure the office is open and has the resources you are seeking.  While many state workforce offices are open Monday-Friday, from 8:00 a.m., to 4:30 p.m., some have limited office schedules, as noted below.  With budget cuts, some offices may simply be closed and the information available online may not be up-to-date.

If you experience this confusion, you may call (855) 225-4440 for the most recent information.  But, you may have to be persistent, as Arkansas has, at least, three different “official” sites listing statewide offices with inaccurate and confusing information.

Arkansas Works

Arkansas Works is a collaborative effort by the departments of Career Education, Education, Higher Education, Workforce Services, and Economic Development; the Arkansas Science and Technology Authority; the Arkansas Association of Two-Year Colleges; and the State Chamber of Commerce.

It is funded by the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services through Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).

Truck Driver Training Pilot Initiative

The Arkansas Department of Workforce Services (DWS), in conjunction with the Arkansas Trucking Association, and Arkansas State University – Newport, a leading center for transportation careers, has created a pilot program to train and place 300 truck drivers with Arkansas trucking companies.  The four-week course is paid for by Arkansas DWS, with a requirement that successful candidates will stay with the hiring company for 12 months or to reimburse.

Eligibility for the program begins with a visit to any of the Arkansas Workforce Centers and register as a job-seeker.  For further details, please go here: Fact Sheet.pdf
